Beautiful. What you describe towards the end is the art of dolce far niente that I think is so lost on North American health gurus. The potential healing powers of just being. When you can do that, you don’t need the hat dresser, pedicure and manicure and yoga to feel good. I say this as a yoga teacher :)

Of course the Italians have a beautiful way to say it ! I hope to practice more of it. It not something I do with ease. I would love to have a yoga teacher like you near by . Thank you for writing. 🙏

Ahhh. Thank you Alecia. You captured it beautifully in this essay. I write a lot about finding moments of joy and gratitude in these kinds of moments. And I always say that I teach not “doing yoga” but “being yoga” , which is something else entirely… :)

Thank you, Jeanine. I love hearing from people who know the area, especially. It's like a seed is planted in you that is lifelong and slow-growing, We now have a home in Pistoia, (as of Feb. this year) but Bagni di Lucca is not far away. I think Lucca is such a lovely town! I can't wait to spend more time there. Thanks for writing!

A lovely sojourn of a post, waltzing us through both the bustle of Rome and the solitude of Bagni di Lucca. My husband's family's ancestral home is in nearby Ponte a Moriano and Lucca, down the hill/road from you. We went through it as we drove up the mountain for a day's outing a few years ago. His cousins are still there and still run the century old + family farmacia in Ponte a Moriano. Such a beautiful area.
